Beyond the Classroom
The Design and Technology department provide a range of curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities to enrich the students experience at
school.
school.
Food Technology offers many opportunities beyond the classroom, these include various ‘healthy eating’ charity bake sales, students making food products for school concerts and productions, Food trips, strong links with the Food department within the Junior school and other subjects. Food technology has also been incorporated
into PHSE programmes within the school. Outside speakers and local chefs have come into the school to do presentations and demonstrations. There are various Food clubs that take place throughout the academic year. A recent development is the 'Great BSAK Bake off' which sees staff compete for the coveted title of the best baker. There is also an F1 in Schools Challenge open to all students who
wish to use departmental facilities in order to design and to race small model racing cars in a national and worldwide team event. |
All Product Design students are offered the opportunity to use specific lunchtime and often after school sessions to extend and develop products they are designing and making in class. This ensures that products and tasks are completed even when fixtures, trips and visits have taken them away from the classroom.
A great deal of time is available during lunchtime and after school for students to investigate materials, processes and equipment used in Textiles Technology and to design and make a wide range of products of their choice.
